Arizona State Credit Union Shred Heads to Flagstaff

Flagstaff community members encouraged to shred sensitive documents in fight against identity theft

PHOENIX, Ariz. –As Arizona State Credit Union approaches the midpoint of its 2012 Shred-A-Thon tour, Flagstaff community members will have two opportunities to shred their sensitive documents.

Members of this northern Arizona community are encouraged to bring their documents to the Credit Union's Flagstaff Beaver Street branch on Tuesday, June 12, or the Flagstaff Highway 89 branch on Tuesday, July 10. Both events will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The events are free of charge and help raise awareness about the importance of shredding personal documents to protect against identity theft.

"As a local financial cooperative, the Credit Union's ability to support this community need is important," said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. "Green initiatives, like the Shred-A-Thon, are part of our sustainable model and are what separate us from other financial institutions."

At the Credit Union's May Shred event in Prescott, residents brought 8,965 pounds of documents to be shredded and recycled. This is almost double what the community shredded during last year's event and is also the most any Shred event has produced since the Credit Union began participating in the program three years ago.

Important documents to bring to the Shred-A-Thons include bank statements, tax returns, medical bills, credit card statements and other personal documents. Community members will also be placed into a drawing to win an Apple iPad when they apply for a Visa® Platinum Credit Card.

Shred-A-Thons will be hosted at northern Arizona Credit Union branches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are free and open to all members of the community, with a limit of five boxes per person. Below is a complete list of remaining branches and dates:

- Flagstaff Beaver Street Tuesday, June 12
- Flagstaff Highway 89 Tuesday, July 10
- Payson Tuesday, August 7
- Prescott Gail Gardner Way Tuesday, September 11
- Cottonwood Tuesday, October 16
