Arizona State Credit Union Kicks Off First of Seven Shred-A-Thons
Credit Union educates Northern Arizona communities about identity theft
Phoenix, Ariz. -Arizona State Credit Union will host the first of several Shred-A-Thons throughout its Northern Arizona branches on April 12. This free event helps members of the community by raising awareness about the importance of shredding personal documents to protect against identity theft.
The Credit Union hosted the Shred-A-Thon for the first time last year and recycled more than 23 tons of paper, the equivalent to saving 288 trees, during a series of eight events. With the communities' high demand for the program's return in 2011, it is the Credit Union's goal to repeat the incredible success of last year's efforts.
"Identity theft trended downward in 2010, which we hope was due to increased awareness from events such as our Shred-A-Thons," said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. "For this reason, it is important that we provide educational events and identity theft protection tips to our members and the Arizona communities we continue to serve."
Important documents to bring to the Shred-A-Thons include bank statements, tax returns, medical bills, credit card statements and other personal documents. Arizona State Credit Union will offer one hundred dollars to anyone who opens a checking account with direct deposit during any of the events.
Shred-A-Thons will be hosted at seven of the Northern Arizona Credit Union branches and are open to all members of the community. Below is a complete list of branches and dates:
