Arizona State Credit Union Helps State Employees Save More Than 23,000 Gallons of Fuel

Credit Union’s sponsorship of Capitol Rideshare’s Clean Air Campaign yields record high results

PHOENIX, Ariz.Arizona State Credit Union’s sponsorship of Capitol Rideshare’s summer Clean Air Campaign saved state employees more than 500,000 miles. This equates to 5.8 tons of pollutants not released into the air during the campaign’s two week period, the highest record since the 2003 campaign.

The Credit Union donated the prizes, including Apple iPads, iPod Shuffles and iTunes gift cards, to help drive carpool participation during the campaign’s challenge weeks: June 20-24 and July 25-29. Armed with giveaways and enticing Credit Union offers, Credit Union associates also visited various state employee buildings in downtown Phoenix to encourage their involvement.

"We had a significant number of employees participate in the contest for the first time largely due to the exciting prizes,” said Abigail Cooksey-Williams, program director for Capitol Rideshare. “The employee who won the July Challenge was a first-time participant who entered the contest because of the iPad giveaway – her children have been begging for one."

Capitol Rideshare, which provides state employees with information about ridesharing, participates in the Clean Air Campaign four times a year in one week periods. This ongoing effort to educate employees about alternate modes of transportation encourages employees to try carpooling or a different way to get to work for at least one day.

The Clean Air Campaign aligns well with the credit union model. As a cooperative business, Arizona State Credit Union looks to initiatives such as the Clean Air Campaign to promote sustainability, and help support the local community and economy.

“This is an exciting initiative that helps Arizona State Credit Union maintain a strong relationship with state employees, which is the membership base the Credit Union was originally founded for,” said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. “With Capitol Rideshare’s core values closely aligned with those of the Credit Union, it is encouraging to see that over 10 percent of state employees took advantage of the program this year.”

This is Arizona State Credit Union’s first time sponsoring the Clean Air Campaign; however, the Credit Union’s partnership with Capitol Rideshare is more than two years old.
