Arizona State Credit Union Opens New Concept at Arizona State University

Credit Union's re:thinkbanking center Challenges Students to Rethink Financial Management

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Arizona State Credit Union is challenging students to rethink financial management with the opening of its re:thinkbanking center. The Credit Union launched re:thinkbanking with a goal to engage current and potential members ages 18 to 24 by providing financial education and easy account access. Located inside the Memorial Union at Arizona State University, the center gives university students an essential alternative to big banks.

The Credit Union worked with Weber Marketing Group, located in Seattle, WA, to create a space that resonated with students as well as university staff. To ensure the design appealed to students, Weber showed Generation Y panels numerous space concepts and asked panel members to react positively or negatively to them.

"The results of Weber's treatments and concepts are spectacular," said Paul Stull, senior vice president of marketing at Arizona State Credit Union. "The way in which this recruit-and-train location has turned heads with its nontraditional approach is both intriguing and inviting."

The location does not have cash, but staff are able to provide member service. Their primary role is to engage new members and educate existing members on financial management. The location also has a full service ATM, which has the functionality to allow members to view their statements as well as make cash deposits, loan payments and account transfers.

"This is a very exciting time for Arizona State Credit Union as we extend our presence into Tempe and ASU," said Stull. "It's critical that students have resources to help provide financial education so they can make the best decisions based on their individual needs."

Since its opening, the re:thinkbanking center has been successful in reaching students with its innovative approach to banking. The staff, all current or former ASU students, attend various events on the ASU campus and give away t-shirts in ASU colors, sporting URLs for the Credit Union's dedicated re:thinkbanking microsite. By motivating students, the staff increases members' financial literacy while challenging them to rethink banking. You can visit the re:thinkbanking center Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
