Arizona State Credit Union Honored With Major Industry Award for Success of HelpingAZ.com Website
Website Helps All Arizonans Weather Tough Economy and Earns Arizona State Credit Union The 2009 Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Arizona State Credit Union announced today they have won the 2009 Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action, recognizing the Credit Union for its extraordinary commitment to its members through groundbreaking programs and services. This special industry award is presented annually by the Arizona Credit Union League.
The Credit Union won the award for their successful HelpingAZ.com website, the first-ever social media site designed to help Arizonans who have been impacted by the economy. The idea behind this innovative online tool is simple: it's a virtual "one-stop shop" on surviving the economic downturn. The site centers on the idea of "people helping people" and is powered by its participants. It provides the latest news, job listings and local economic information while allowing for open dialogue through message boards. Since launching in April, HelpingAZ.com has provided information to more than 3,000 visitors with over 450 posts. While the site was originally designed for use by the Credit Union's membership, as economic conditions quickly worsened, it was broadened to include all Arizonans.
"People helping people is the common goal of all credit unions," said David E. Doss, President and CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. "We believe this kind of goodwill should extend not only to our membership, but to all residents of the state. For nearly 60 years, we have been committed to helping all Arizonans through tough times, a philosophy that's especially relevant right now."
In winning this award, Arizona State Credit Union is further recognized for its commitment to innovative thinking and a long-held dedication to providing the people of Arizona with tools they need to become financially empowered. The Credit Union will go on to represent the State of Arizona in Washington, D.C., at a national competition for Credit Unions from across the nation.
